WCPC Preschool · Walnut Creek
A play-based preschool on the WCPC campus downtown. Twelve children to a class at most, often fewer. We have been doing this a long time.
Welcome
Children arrive at nine and choose where to go. At nine-thirty we pull everyone into a circle for songs, a story, and an argument about the weather. Then a project tied to the week's theme, snack, and outside until noon.
The reason we build the morning around play rather than worksheets is that a four-year-old works out how much water fits in a cup by pouring water into a cup, and remembers it. Physical, social, emotional, academic, spiritual: we do not rank those, and we do not trade one for another.
Why families choose us
Most of our lead teachers have been here for years. All are CPR and first-aid certified.
One teacher to every six two-year-olds, nine threes and ten Pre-K children.
Child-led exploration in the morning, teacher-led projects mid-morning. Both, every day.
Teachers keep notes on each child and plan around what that child is ready for next.
One controlled entry, enclosed play yards, and staff who check ID until they know your face. California license #070200846.
Care from eight in the morning to five in the afternoon, with the same teachers.
From our families
“We had the best experience at WCPC Preschool! Our daughter loved attending, loved her teachers, and loved making friends. She grew as a person and as a believer during her time at preschool.”
“Our two-year-old daughter thrived in the warm, nurturing environment that her experienced, caring teachers created this year. We are so glad we chose WCPC Preschool for our daughter’s first school experience.”
“To say this place is magical is an understatement. Most of the time I’m certain they didn’t even know they were learning, because they were having so much fun.”
Programs by age
Every classroom runs Monday–Friday, 9am – 12:30pm, with morning and afternoon care available.
For most of them this is the first time they have been left anywhere. Songs, sensory bins, and a great deal of lap-sitting.
Threes talk constantly and want to know why. Stories, art, dress-up, and the first real disagreements over who had the shovel.
Letters, sounds, name-writing, counting. Also sitting through a lesson and asking a grown-up for help.

We share a campus with the church, which is how we can offer a gated lot and a lot of room. Families of every background and belief enroll here and always have.
Come see us
Tours run about thirty minutes on weekday mornings, while the children are there, which is the point.
